Hello
Thank you for visiting my page. I hope my art inspires you the same way it has influenced my mentality.
“Life ought to be spent on beautiful things.”
I am grateful for the beautiful friends I have made through my art, literature, and cultural journey.
My Background
I come from Taiwan (Republic of China) where Chinese culture has a heavy influence. Since grade school, I have pursued traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. I learned from a wide range of instructors, largely in one-on-one settings. I studied Chinese painting with Master Tian-qi Rong (容天圻) who was a disciple of Da-qian Zhan (張大千) and Chang-shuo Wu (吳昌碩). Many years later, I was admitted into the Applied Art Program in Fu-Jen Catholic University for my Bachelors of Arts. During this period of my life, I studied with Professor Zhen-ji Lee (李貞吉) who is the third-generation disciple of You-ren Yu (于右任). For more than 30 years, I have immersed myself in Chinese Calligraphy.
When I moved to the States in 2002, I started to build my American experience on top of my own culture and values. For the past 21 years, most of my professional experiences were centered around teaching cultural classes in local communities. I taught art classes at public schools for years and Chinese language and culture classes for 10 years in heritage schools. As a teacher in a heritage Chinese school, I was chosen to be an overseas culture seed teacher by the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Organization (TECO) in Seattle for over 12 years.
My recent art style explores the intersection of diversity in eastern and western art styles in addition to the duality of ancient and modern Chinese art. In the past ten years, I’ve been invited to many exhibitions, one of which was hosted by the Chinese Calligraphy Society at Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s (孫中山) National Memorial Hall (國父紀念館) in Taipei and several other cultural centers or personal exhibits.
As an artist and a cultural instructor, I have hosted over 200 art workshops working in multiple mediums: Chinese painting, calligraphy, Taiwanese puppetry, shadow puppetry, art dough figurines, and more. With the passion to promote Chinese calligraphy and painting, I work with county libraries to start a series of art programs provided to the community residents. I founded "Hsing Creations" for the purpose of teaching locals who wish to learn and practice Chinese calligraphy. More recently, I have been invited to the Ya-Ji artist event hosted by the well-respected Lan-Su Garden in Portland, OR. I look forward to other community collaborations, local and abroad.
“Life ought to be spent on beautiful things” is my lifestyle. I am grateful for the valuable friends I have made through my art, literature, and cultural journey.
